Live at Sipe: Claves Unidos

Claves Unidos, translated “United Rhythms,” is a community-oriented dance company from Richmond, Virginia will be performing at Sipe Center tomorrow night, May 21 at 7:30 p.m! The group will perform Ancestral Memories: It Takes A Language. You can purchase your tickets online now!

This is a coming of age story utilizing cultural African-American imagery to provide snapshots of the communication journeys that humans share. The evening features musical and movement inspirations from Guatemala, Brazil, Cuba, and the United States.

Claves Unidos seeks to honor the contributions of strength and spirit, rhythm and rhyme, power and perseverance that people of African descent have made and continue to make to the world as they stand up for what is right, challenge useless stereotypes, learn to laugh at, and make creative voices heard.

Tickets are $20 and are available online, over the phone or in person during box office hours.  This performance was supported [in part] by the Virginia Commission for the Arts, which receives support from the Virginia General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
