Today is Hazardous Waste Cleanup Day at the Rockingham County Landfill (813 Greendale Road). You can go to the landfill between 8:00 a.m. and Noon today and they will accept the following items (limit of 5 units per vehicle/per household):
- Solvents (mineral or petroleum spirits, paint thinner, turpentine, acetone, naphtha, methyl alcohol)
- Automotive fluids
- Paints (but not latex)
- Fuels (gasoline, diesel fuel, chainsaw or motorboat fuel, #2 fuel oil, kerosene, and heating oil)
- Other items (transmission oil, syringes & needles, herbicides & pesticides, commercial grade fertilizer, rechargeable batteries, fluorescent lights, and antifreeze)
Business and farm wastes will not be accepted. Any waste brought to the site other than those listed above will not be accepted. Waste must be in original container and, due to EPA and Virginia regulations, waste can only be accepted from households. No containers over 5 gallons in size will be accepted.
