As you surely know, our Christmas Tree Lighting is this evening (Sunday, November 26) at Generations Park at 6:30 pm. We will have cookies, cider, and Christmas music!
The only problem is… some of our cookies got away last night! Our Parks Coordinator Katie was at the Community Center getting the cookies ready. She had all the cookies lined up on a table and turned her back to get a bag when she heard some quiet giggling. She spun back around as quick as she could and was just in time to see six cookies hop up and start to run down the table. She stood there shocked to see such a sight. When the cookies jumped off the table and ran toward the door, she began to chase them. “Run, run, as fast as you can! You can’t catch us! We’re the gingerbread men!” they all gleefully shouted as they shot through the door. Well, except the gingerbread women, of course, who shouted, “Run, run, as fast as you can! You can’t catch us! We’re the gingerbread women!” By the time Katie got to the door, the cookies were gone, so she called Police Chief Read for help.
Chief Read was just outside the Community Center when he got the call. As Katie frantically explained what had happened, he saw a door open and six little cookies come running straight past him. He took off in pursuit after them. As the cookies dashed toward Main Street, they happily yelled, “Run, run, as fast as you can! You can’t catch us! We’re the gingerbread women!” Except, of course, the gingerbread men who yelled, “Run, run, as fast as you can! You can’t catch us! We’re the gingerbread men!”
When they got to Main Street, the cookies scattered in different directions along the sidewalks. Following the closest one, Chief Read saw the other cookies darting into businesses to hide in the holiday decorations. The last cookie kept running and called out, “Run, run, <gasp> as fast as you can! <gasp> You can’t catch me! <gasp> I’m the gingerbread man!” – because, of course, he was by now all by himself and getting rather tired from all that running. But then, Chief Read did – run as fast he could and catch him, that is – and took him back to Katie.
Still there were five escaped gingerbread men and women hiding in local businesses, so Katie called our Town Planner Gwen for her help. Gwen called all the businesses in town. “Be on the lookout for five escaped gingerbread people. They are hiding in holiday decorations all over town. One might be in yours.” The owners each said, “We are so busy with the holidays. Can you get someone to help us find them?”
So Gwen is asking all the kids out there: Can you help us find the five escaped gingerbread people? Search the decorations of businesses participating in our decorating contest and see if you can find them. But don’t touch them! They may try to run away before Gwen can come catch them. Just let the shop worker know you spotted an escaped gingerbread, and they will let Gwen know. They might even have a treat for you for helping us out!
There are fourteen businesses in the decorating contest where our five escaped gingerbread may be found. (Not every business will have one.) While you search for them, be sure to pick out your favorite decorations and vote here on the Buzz. Voting begins tonight after the Tree Lighting and continues through December 14th.
