“Sgt. Morrison is a great leader and a dedicated officer to the Town of Bridgewater. Officer Snyder is a true asset and has taken on many duties to help better the department and serve the public,” says Chief Phillip Read. “I’m very proud of these two officers and their progression in their careers.”
Our Police Department’s career progression program for Officers and Sergeants emphasizes professional training and education in the belief that these empower employees to reach their goals and achieve professional and personal excellence. The purpose of this career progression program is to:
1. Enhance the level of law enforcement service to the public.
2. Increase the technical expertise and overall effectiveness of our personnel.
3. Provide for continued professional development of department personnel.
4. Promote a philosophy of community policing throughout the department.
Officers and Sergeants are eligible for progression after meeting minimum service and experience requirements. Candidates enhance their skills through specialized training in community policing as well as in areas such as motorcycles, firearms, driving, defensive tactics, investigation, and crash reconstruction. Sergeants are additionally required to complete leadership training. Candidates must perform another departmental duty in addition to their primary duty. These duties include evidence room officer, peer support coordinator, vehicle fleet manager, and traffic issue/complaint coordinator, to name just a few. They must also complete a fitness test of their physical ability.
“The Bridgewater Police Department has an interest in and responsibility for its personnel’s continual growth and development,” Chief Read says of the career progression program. “Investing in the officers is investing in the community.”
Congratulations to Senior Sergeant Morrison and Senior Office Snyder, and thank you for your hard work and dedication!
