The Department of Homeland Security “has issued a National Terrorism Advisory System Bulletin regarding a heightened threat environment… due to the direct involvement of the United States in the ongoing conflict between the nations of Israel and Iran.” Given the possibility of an increased threat of terror/cyber attacks, the Virginia Department of Health has accordingly advised the Town to increase our security around critical infrastructure, including our water treatment and distribution system.
As a result, we have made the decision to cancel the Water Treatment Plant Open House that we had planned for this Saturday. While we recognize that the threat of an attack against our system–although potentially heightened–still remains small, we put your safety above all other considerations and do not want to create an additional, unnecessary risk at this time. Our operators were excited to help you better understand the work they do to provide you with safe, clean water, so we are disappointed to have to make this decision. We will evaluate the possibility of holding this event in the future when the potential risks subside. Thanks for your understanding, and please know that we remain committed to providing you reliably with the safest, cleanest water we can!
