Civilian Response Training Offered in Bridgewater

The Bridgewater Police Department will be hosting a Civilian Response and Casualty Care (CRCC) training with the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services at Arey Hall (basement of Bridgewater Community Center at 201 Green Street) on Friday, March 6, 12:30 – 4:30 pm. The purpose of the training is to educate businesses, churches, and responsibly concerned individuals on what to do in the event of an active shooter incident.

This training, designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend / Run, Hide, Fight strategy developed by ALERRT in 2004, provides strategies, guidance, and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. This course combines the civilian response with the Stop the Bleed Campaign, which empowers civilians to provide life-saving medical aid before first responders ever arrive. Topics include the history and prevalence of active shooter events, civilian response options, and basic medical intervention to reduce preventable causes of death.

More information is available on the DCJS website. There is no cost, but pre-registration is required.
