The Off Broadway Players will be presenting Mitch Albom’s Tuesdays with Morrie for an entire weekend at the end of March! It will be held March 27 at 7:30 pm, March 28 at 7:30 pm, & March 29 at 3:00 pm.
Based on the autobiographical book by Mitch Albom, Tuesdays with Morrie explores the lessons of love, duty, relationships, and the meaning of life and death. Mitch, a former student of Professor Morrie Schwartz, was leading a successful career as a sports journalist when he learned that Morrie had contracted ALS, Lou Gehrig’s disease. Mitch visits Morrie, intent on spending just a little time with his favorite teacher. Instead, the close relationship they had during Mitch’s college years is rekindled. Mitch then spends every Tuesday with Morrie in what Mitch describes as his last class with his professor, a class that reminds Mitch of the most important things in life.
In October 2010, the Off Broadway Players was born as The Schultz Theatre in the former Rouss Opera House, located in New Market. Named for its founder’s grandfather, the theatre had immediate success, and in 2012 was named by the readers of Virginia Living Magazine as one of the outstanding performing arts troupes in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Six years later, the theatre company began holding its productions in the more modern facility of the J. Frank Hillyard Middle School Auditorium in Broadway. In recognition of the support of the town and community, in 2020 the theatre board adopted a new name—Off Broadway Players.
