Traffic & Parking for the Lawn Party

As the Fire Company’s Lawn Party draws near, we thought it would be a good idea to highlight some traffic and parking issues:

  1. With Wellness Quarter construction ongoing, there will be less room for parking in Harrison Park.  We’ve asked the contractor to pull back its construction fences temporarily, and we have told the Fire Company that we can set up the entire balance of the site for parking—even areas where we haven’t allowed it before.  We’re not sure how the Fire Company plans to use the site.
  2. Our only rule change with respect to parking will be to allow it on McGuffin Avenue, West View Street, and North River Road on non-parade days.  They were closed historically only because of traffic issues related to the parades, so it made sense to allow parking on other days.
  3. We have agreed to pay for extended hours of the shuttle bus running from TA to the site.  (And we also note that many people would find it a very easy walk from Oakdale Park to the Lawn Party.)
  4. We have asked that tractor owners follow Virginia traffic regulations and refrain from joyriding through town.  Separately, Lawn Party officials set some time limitations for tractor usage on the site.
  5. Lastly, we understand that antique cars will not be shown at Harrison Park but instead will be shown at Smiley’s Ice Cream (though we have not yet heard that officially).

We want the Lawn Party to be a great success, and we hope that all who visit have a great time.  Please excuse our dust as we build Wellness Quarter.
